Alberta Mae Jones, 89, Denton, KS

Alberta Mae Jones, 89, formerly of Denton, KS, passed away February 26, 2013, at NorthCare Hospice House within North Kansas City Hospital. She was surrounded by her children as she achieved eternal peace. She had been living with a daughter in Gladstone, MO.

Alberta was born January 26, 1924, in Denton, KS, to Clinton H. and Mary (Sharp) Rainwater. She graduated from Denton High School in 1942 and began a bookkeeping career at Bendena State Bank. She met Ralph F. Jones in 1944 at the bank when he was on an Army furlough. They were married August 12, 1945. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before Ralph passed away in September, 2010.

In addition to her husband, Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lewis Rainwater; sister-in-law, Peggy Rainwater; son-in-law, Byron G. Johnson; and, a sister-in-law, Alma (Jones) Cohoon-Provance. Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Jane (Don) Jobe, Gladstone, MO; Norma (Michael) Atkins, St. Joseph, MO; three sons - James (Vivian) Jones, Jerry (Sue) Jones, and William C. Jones, all of Wathena, KS; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and, fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Elaine (Don) Myers; a brother, John (Virginia) Rainwater; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Rainwater.

Alberta worked part-time and full-time for The Bank of Denton from 1957 to 1995. Alberta was very involved in serving the community and her church. She was instrumental in forming the Dorcas Circle at St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a leader of the Bendena Community 4-H Club for fifteen years. She shared her love of sewing by serving as a District Director of Make It With Wool Contest for twenty-five years. Alberta received many awards and recognition for her community work including being named to the Atchison Globe's Honor Roll for community service. Most of all, Alberta loved her family. She was an inspiration to her children, a doting grandmother, and she adored her great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm on Monday, Mar 4, at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, KS. Funeral services will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, Mar 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bendena, KS. Burial will be at the Moray Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated. Memorial gifts honoring Alberta and supporting her church may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church.
