By: Gregory Hurt
Dorothy Atlakson, 81, of St. Joseph, left her earthly home Friday, February 8, 2013, an hour after her last audible prayer to the Lord to take her home.

She was born Dorothy Elizabeth Brown on December 29, 1931 in Lebanon, MO to Ward and Delberta Brown. Raised in Atchison, KS where she married Earl Atlakson in 1949 and moved to St. Joseph in 1961 with their four children. Dorothy worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, then as Secretary at Hosea Elementary School. She was a member of Red Hats and Carnegie Culture Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends in Atchison. She and Earl were active members of King Hill Baptist Church since 1961.

Dorothy remained active and independent in spite of her many physical problems including pancreatic cancer in 1997. Her friends and family recognized her strength of endurance and she gave Jesus Christ the credit for her survival record. She will be missed by many who loved her.

Dorothy lost her husband/companion on her birthday in 2009. She has remaining her three sons: Stephen (Linda), Christian (Derissa), and Philip (Carol); and one daughter Diane (Dave). Her brother, Harley (Susan-deceased) and David (Mary Jo); thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16 at King Hill Baptist Church, with fellowship afterward.

Arrangements under direction of Clark-Sampson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to King Hill Baptist Church.
