Karen L. Knudson, 65, of rural Everest, KS

Karen L. Knudson, 65, of rural Everest, died Friday afternoon, June 11, 2010, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.

She was born at Denison, Iowa October 23, 1944, one of three children of Hugo and Elvera Weideman Brus.  Karen grew up at Denison where she attended schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1962.  She later graduated from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.  

Mrs. Knudson was a longtime member of Upper Wolf Lutheran Church, southeast of Robinson, where she had been very active through the years.  Karen volunteered for Northeast Kansas Multi-County Hospice for a number of years.

She married John Knudson, June 5, 1966, at Schleswig, Iowa.  They moved to a farm near Everest where she taught and later substituted teaching at Everest for a number of years. John survives of the home.

Also surviving are a Bruce (Jenny) Knudson, also of rural Everest; her mother Elvera Brus of Denison, Iowa; a sister LaJune (Marty) Magill of Perry, Iowa; a grand-daughter Rebecca Knudson of rural Everest; and 9 nieces and nephews.

Karen was preceded in death by her father; and a brother Verdell Brus.

A celebration of Karen’s life is planned for 10:30 Tuesday morning, June 15, at Upper Wolf Lutheran Church, southeast of Robinson, with Interim Pastor Dick Reumann officiating.  Interment will follow at the Upper Wolf Cemetery, nearby.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Monday where the family will meet with friends that evening from 6:30 until 8.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Upper Wolf Church Memorial Fund or NEK Multi-County Hospice, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha.
