Maxine Elizabeth Pickett, 91, St. Joseph, MO

Maxine Elizabeth Pickett, 91, St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at her home.
Maxine was born on January 20, 1922, in St. Joseph, to John and Clara (Massard) Eden. On December 21, 1942, she married Gilbert R. Pickett. They were a devoted couple for 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Dorothy Everett, who was also her best friend.
Survivors: husband, Gilbert Pickett; sons: John and Steve Pickett, St. Joseph; daughters: Nancy (Mort) Nelson, St. Joseph; Ruth Anne (Carl) Cox, Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren: Dan Nelson, Kansas City; Kate Nelson, Toronto, Ontario; Carla (Britton) Formisano, McLean, Virginia; and Andrew Cox, Ashburn, Virginia; several nieces and nephews, special caregivers and many friends.
Maxine attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Central High School. During World War II, she was chief clerk for the Post Engineers office of the Army Air Transport Command at Rosecrans Field. She was the last female employee to leave the base after the war. In addition to raising four children, she worked part time for fifteen years as a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband at Lawhon Construction Company.
Over the years, Maxine was a member of both St. Joseph Co-Cathedral and Our Lady of Guadalupe churches. She belonged to organizations such as Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She had many friends and was the true heart of her close-knit family, who loved her deeply. She was well known for her radiant smile.
Services: Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph. Daughters of Isabella will hold a Rosary at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Heaton-Bowman Chapel. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Patee House Museum, PO Box 1022, St. Joseph 64502; InterServ, PO Box 4038, St. Joseph 64504; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
