Ralph O. Hood, 87, Stewartsville, MO

By: Gregory Hurt
Ralph O. Hood, 87, Stewartsville, Missouri, surrounded by family and friends who loved him and with the reassurance of the love for him by those family members who were not present, completed his final journey and passed peacefully and comfortably into the welcome arms of the Lord and those family members and friends waiting for him in his heavenly reward.

He was born April 20, 1925 to Jess and Cora Maude (Fabert) Hood in Ottawa, Kansas.

On February 15, 1985, Ralph married Audrey Hood, who preceded him in death on December 5, 2005.

Ralph was a World War II veteran who served three years in the Army Air Corp and served in New Guinea as a Motor Vehicle Mechanic. Following service in the Army, Ralph worked at Swift & Company Packing House in St. Joseph before becoming the Postmaster at Cosby, Missouri in 1966. Ralph continued to work for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired.

Ralph was an outdoor enthusiast for all of his life and truly loved being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and working in the garden.  In his mid-60's, his sons introduced him to playing golf, and he became an avid golfer and member of the Duncan Hills Golf Course in Savannah, Missouri.  On the golf course, Ralph achieved what many other golfers only dream about. He hit a hole-in-one when he was 80, and he hit his second hole-in-one at 82.

Ralph and Audrey truly enjoyed their friendships, fellowship, and commitment to both the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodges in Cosby, Missouri. Ralph faithfully served in several positions including serving twice as the Eastern Star's Worthy Patron.

Those who knew Ralph well, knew that he was not a man of many words, but he was quick with a smile, a joke, and a twinkle of his bright blue eyes. Ralph touched the hearts of many during his lifetime, and although he will be missed, he will always be remembered and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ralph Eugene Hood; wife, Audrey; brothers, George Hood and Howard Hood; sisters, Daisy Tipton, Ada Wasson, and Ruth Reynolds.

Hood, Centerfield, Utah and Jesse Hood, Stuart's Draft, Virginia; sister, Irene Shepherd, Newbury Park, California; four children, Joyce Hood, Mesa, Arizona, Richard Hood (Cheryl), Des Moines, Iowa, Gail Murray (Bill), Indianapolis, Indiana, and Frank Hood (Pam), Liberty, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
