Darlene Laverne (Benitz) Treu, 82, passed from this mortal life, Friday, February 8, 2013, at her residence in St. Joseph.
Darlene was born January 4, 1931, in Doniphan County, Kansas, to Carl and Hilda (Ramseier) Benitz.
She attended Wathena High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. She married Joseph Treu on October 17, 1957, and alternated careers as a homemaker with employment at Westab (Mead), Sheppard Studios, Crouch Brothers, and finally as office manager at IBEW Local 545, where she retired. She was a long serving member of the Altar Society of St. James Church. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, crossword puzzles, gardening, Las Vegas, and time with her children and grandchildren. She was known as an often quiet, but always polite and well-mannered lady, and was a supportive mother. She will be intensely missed by her relatives and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Bobby, Carl Jr., and Bernard.
Survivors: son, James Treu, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughters, Alison (Jim) Creal, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Susan (Craig) Walker, Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Melvin Benitz, Baltimore, Maryland; sister, Betty (Jim) Gilpin, Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Jameson and Alanna Treu and Emily and Christopher Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, St. James Catholic Church. Inurnment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Parish Rosary 6:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In accordance with her wishes, her remains will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and the Hands of Hope Hospice.
