James B. (J.B.) McAsey 78, of St. Joseph, MO

James B. "J.B." McAsey 78, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at a health care center in Wathena, KS.

He was born June 6, 1932 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Edna and William McAsey.

He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and he married Shirley Welch on April 30, 1959 in Miami Oklahoma . He served in the Navy and is a veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Union Pacific Railroad as a Engineer and retired after 38 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and playing pitch, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6760 and St. Patricks Catholic Church.

J. B. was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, James B. McAsey Jr., a brother, William McAsey, a sister, Mary Ann Yager.

Survivors include wife, Shirley McAsey of the home. two daughters, Linda Kerns and husband Carl, Laura Whitley all of St. Joseph, MO, three grandsons, Michael Kerns and wife Ashley, Bill Whitley, and James "Buster" Whitley, a granddaughter, Jaime Landers and husband Scott, two great-grandchildren, Emma & Seth Kerns, two brothers, Francis "Sonny" McAsey and wife Doris Bob McAsey and wife Jeri, a sister, Nancy Herbert all of St. Joseph, MO as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM, at the Rupp Funeral Home.

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Tuesday at the Rupp Chapel where the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
