(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) For the third time this season, Kansas beats rival Kansas State 70-54 clinching its ninth Big 12 Tournament title.
The Jayhawks (29-5) have now beaten the Wildcats (27-7) three times in conference title games, and today's win gives them the Big 12's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Kansas overcame a slow start and 15 turnovers to pull away in the second half.
The Jayhawks shot 49-percent from the field, and were led by Jeff Withey with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while freshmen Perry Ellis added 12.
Kansas State, led by Rodney McGruder with 18 points and Angel Rodriguez with 10, are a virtual lock for the NCAA Tournament, but will have to watch the selection show Sunday to see where the land.
In the first meeting between the squads, KU came out with a 59-55 win at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Ks. They also took the second meeting 83-62 in Lawrence.
Saturday's championship is the 10th time in the Big 12's 17 years that Kansas has played in the conference title game.
