(SAINT JOSEPH, Mo.) The absence of three starters from Missouri Western's lineup took its toll Saturday.

A scoring draught in the second half doomed the Griffons as they fell for just the second time this season, losing to No. 17 Fort Hays State 57-42.

MWSU (8-2, 1-1) took a 25-21 lead into the locker room after what head coach Rob Edmisson called the best half his team had played yet. However, the women tallied just 17 points in the final 20 minutes.

The Griffons shot just 31 percent from the floor overall and nailed 15 percent of their field goals in the second half.

Heather Howard lead that offense with 15 points, while Tiffanie Abrams and Alex Saxen were the other Griffons in double figures with 10 apiece.

The women do not play again until Jan. 3.
