(SAINT JOSEPH, Mo.) After a series of cancellations, the Griffon offense couldn't make up for lost time in their first taste of home cooking.
The Missouri Western Softball team scored just one run in dropping both ends of a double header to Central Missouri by finals of 3-1 and 2-0 Friday.
It was the Griffons' (12-8, 0-2) first action in the MIAA and in St. Joseph after four straight cancelled contests.
Western scored the first run of the day courtesy of a Maegen Roemmich solo home run, but couldn't add any more run support. The Jennies came back to tie and force extra innings in game one, pulling away with another pair for the eventual 3-1 victory.
The second contest was another defensive duel until Brittany Knabe beat out a shot back to Janie Smith, recording an RBI single in the fifth inning. Jakki Prater followed suit one frame later with a run-scoring shot out to right field, giving Central Missouri the two-run cushion they would need.
The Griffons get back at it Saturday with another twinbill against Southwest Baptist beginning at noon.
