(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Missouri Western defensive lineman David Bass is a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year award.

Bass's 10.5 sacks is tops in the MIAA, and he became Missouri Western's all-time sack leader earlier this season. He's currently up to 39.5.

The St. Louis native is also the program leader in tackles for loss with 52.5, 12.5 of them coming during his senior campaign.

Bass is the first Missouri Western lineman to be named a finalist for the Gene Upshaw award since it began in 2004.

It is named after the late Mr. Upshaw that played his college football at Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M Kingsville) and went on to become a Hall of Fame offensive lineman for the Oakland

Bass has been a leader on this year's Griffon squad that has a program-high 12 wins so far, picked up its first two playoff wins and won its first outright MIAA Title.
