(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) As Missouri Western State University awaits the late summer arrival of the Kansas City Chiefs for training camp, another NFL team is looking at the St. Joseph facilities.

Missouri Western Athletic Director Kurt McGuffin confirmed Tuesday that the university hosted staff members from the Arizona Cardinals front office on campus over the weekend.

McGuffin said the Cardinals' brass were on campus to evaluate the training facilities.

They are working with the Chiefs and Missouri Western to coordinate a potential visit from the team to Chiefs Training Camp this summer.

"They looked at everything, now it's up to them, whether they want to proceed with the process," McGuffin said. "We think that'd be a great wrinkle to camp, but we're obviously cautiously optimistic as far as it being a reality."

The Cardinals' staff took photos and shot video of the training facility while they were in St. Joseph.

McGuffin said the discussions are in the early stages and nothing is official at this point.

"We don't want to get everybody's hopes up. Hopefully, we'll be able to complete those negotiations in the next 2 or 3 weeks and hopefully they go well."

McGuffin said if a deal is reached, the Cardinals would be responsible for facility and dorm rental as well as other financial obligations.

"They looked at everything, now it's up to them, whether they want to proceed with the process.
We think that'd be a great wrinkle to camp, but we're obviously cautiously optimistic about as far as it being a reality."

An official start date for Chiefs Training Camp has not been released yet.

If a deal were reached, no specific timetable for the Cardinals' arrival has been set.

Arizona is scheduled to make a swing through the Midwest in early August. The Cardinals will play in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH on Friday, August 5th, followed by a date against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on August 10th.

Be cool to see it on the stadium big screen. ...oh wait, that is in Maryville. Always remember, mo west invites the Chiefs to play on their field, the Chiefs invite Northwest Missouri to play on their field. .....there is a difference!
