A Pittsburg, Missouri woman is widowed tonight after a morning car crash in Buchanan County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 79-year-old driver Lloyd Chaplin and his 70-year-old wife Dolores were driving east bound on 36 Highway when the Chaplins` truck traveled off the roadway striking a stopped trash truck in the intersection of 36 Highway and Missouri 31. Troopers believe Lloyd Chaplin may have suffered a heart attack or similar medical condition before the impact ocurred around 10:30 a.m. Dolores Chaplin was taken by ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released. The three Harmer`s trash truck occupants also suffered minor injuries. Sixty-six--year-old driver Boley Harmer went to the hospital and was treated and released. Troopers say there were no skid marks on the road to indicate Chaplin tried to stop. "The wife apparently said that he was talking to her for a little bit then he stopped talking to her and veered off the road and didn`t respond when she yelled at him twice," Trooper Brain Kelley says. Anytime a fatality or a crash with a commercial vehicle happens, the highway patrol sends crash team specialists to investiagte.
