Only seven months out of boot camp, a St. Joseph soldier is gunned down by enemy fire. A memorial picture hangs on the door of 22 year old Brian J. Bradbury`s family home in St. Joseph. The Private 1st Class soldier was killed Wednesday during a combat mission in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense reports Bradbury died from small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. Bradbury was stationed in Fort Drum, New York with the 71st Calvary Regiment. He attended Benton High School in St. Joseph and leaves behind a wife, two daughters, two brothers and his mother. Bradbury`s wife and daughters are coming to St. Joseph from New York Monday to help plan his funeral. A soldier from Maryland also died when his helicopter hoist malfunctioned while trying to evacuate Bradbury. Bradbury`s mother, Rhonda, says Brian was a good-hearted, thoughtful, christian father who loved his family.
