Pandemic Flu Preperation

Updated: January 7, 2009
Area counties continue to prepare for emergencies such as a pandemic flu. The latest today happened in Holt County, where emergency responders gathered from many areas to get and give information. A checklist was given out that runs down steps families and businesses should take in the event a devastating flu strain hits the Midland Empire. Epidemiology Specialist Ron Tolen says, "There is that possibility that anytime this could go from basically a pandemic among birds to a pandemic among humans and at that stage, it`s a serious incident." Tolen says the same kinds of meeting are happening throughout the United States, from rural communities to metropolitan areas.
