Updated: January 7, 2009
The family of six who lived in a rural Buchanan County home is receiving help from the American Red Cross tonight after a fire reportedly broke out in the attic and quickly spread throughout the home. Dearborn, DeKalb, Faucett and Agency fire fighters responded to the call. Faucett Fire Captain Glen Dittmar says the home sustained extensive damage and will likely be ruled a total loss. The parents and four children all made it out of the home safely and tell KQ2 they are staying with family tonight. Another late night fire claims a south St. Joseph mobile home and leaves its six occupants homeless as well. According to the St. Joseph Fire Department, no one was home at the time of the fire. The cause of the overnight blaze is still under investigation, but fire fighters believe it to be a total loss. The Red Cross is lending assistance to the two adults and four children who lived in the home.
