breaking news
A family of five escapes a trailer fire with only the clothes on their backs. Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire off of Highway 116 while family members try to salvage what`s left of their home. Jan Farris looks through what`s left of what use to be home to her and her four children. She says she was woken up out of deep sleep by someone pounding on her door. She realized the trailer was on fire and got her kids out of the house and ran next door to her parents home. Now staying there are 11 year old Cheyanne, seven year old Savanna, and 20 month old Aleyah and ten year old Jason who is still reeling from the fire.
Its horrible.
A State Fire Marshall goes through the home looking for clues as to what started the fire. Members of the Buchanan County Sheriff`s Department are also investigating the cause of the fire. "We can only say that the fire was not started by natural causes" says Captain Howard Judd. Fire officials believe the fire started her in the bedroom. That `s where Jan and Aleyah was sleeping. Farris had moved here from California just a few short months ago and had been staying here only a couple of months. The home has been gutted but she manages to salvage a few pictures of her children. Her daughter Cheyanne searches for any valuables in her room.
Jason finds his collection of Ninja knives still in tact. "That`s cool" says Jason.
The home which was owned by Farris` sister was not insured. The Red Cross is helping her and the kids with clothes and they will stay next door until they decide what to do. Officials report no suspects but they`re continuing a criminal investigation into the fire.
