(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Buchanan County officials get backing as they push for support on the Use Tax.

Supporters of the Use Tax met Thursday afternoon at the St. Joseph Metro Chamber of Commerce.

The county will put the Use Tax on the April ballot in an attempt to pass it for a fifth time with the voters.

After getting voted down in the last election, county officials have added a sunset clause saying the Use Tax is crucial to bringing dollars back to the county.

"The need is still there," said RT Turner, presiding commissioner of Buchanan County. "The loophole is still there, and it's about supporting local businesses. The businesses that are here every day that pay their property taxes, support their schools and support the money that goes to the streets."

The county said the Use Tax allows the county to collect on out-of-state purchases or purchases made online that total $2,000 or more.
