Joseph G. Zaroor, 95, St. Joseph, MO

Joseph was a life long resident of St. Joseph, born on November 23, 1917 to George and Sarah (Zatha) Zaroor. They preceded him in death. He attended St. Joseph Cathedral and Christian Brothers High School. He served in the Pacific Theatre for five years in the 1st Infantry 3rd Battalion, M. Company 6th Division. He was awarded several citations; among them were the Bronze Medal and the Purple Heart.
He returned to St. Joseph after serving his country and married Mary Jane "Janey" Waris Zaney on May 22, 1946 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She preceded him in death, September 3, 2004.
He began his lifelong career as owner and operator of Nick's Cleaners. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and also belonged to the Holy Name Society. Mr. Zaroor was also lifelong member of Post # 359, and enjoyed bowling, playing and coaching softball and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Surviving family includes daughter, Mary Jo Lindsey, of St. Joseph; sons, Phillip (Rhita) Zaroor, of Harrisonville; Daniel (Donna) Zaroor, of Gower; and Christopher (Debbie) Zaroor, of Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday evening.
A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Friday at our chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or St. Francis House of Bread.
