Ted Martin Novak, 89, St. Joseph, MO

Ted Martin Novak 89, of St. Joseph, MO passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in a Savannah, MO health care center.
He was born October 29, 1923 in Saint Joseph, MO, son of Marie and Jacob Novak. He graduated from Benton high school class of 1941. He married Helen Catherine Miljavac on August 16, 1952 at St. James Catholic Church. they recently celebrated 6- years of marriage together. He served in the Army with the Coast Artillery in the Eastern Defense Command, during World War II. He worked at Jim Gorman Carpet, Midland Building Specialties, and Eckards Home Improvement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and animals. He was a collector of 8 track tapes, but he most especially enjoyed spending time with his family and going out to eat. Ted never met a stranger. He was a member of the American Legion Post #359, St. James Holy Name Society, the Legion of Mary and St. James Catholic Church.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark Novak, 4 brothers, Alex, Charles, Stanley and John Novak, 3 sisters, Berniece Brushwood, Helen Tworek, and Mary Awsiukiewicz. Survivors include his wife Helen Catherine Novak of the home, two daughters, Catherine Novak of St. Joseph, MO, and Christine Pitts and husband Frank of St. Joseph, MO, son, Marty Novak and wife Rosemary of Saint Joseph, MO, grandson, Elgin Smith of Kansas City, MO, and a granddaughter, Cristin Rogers of Mission, KS.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11:00 am at the St. James Catholic Church, Fr. Bill Walter Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home, with the Rosary to be recited at 5:30 pm, Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military honors under the Auspices of the Missoui funeral honors program. Memorials are requested to the St. James Church or the Sisters of St. Francis.
