Dorothy was born on December 20, 1935 in Peoria, Illinois, to James Melvin and Frances Ann (Morris) Bates. She was a member of St. John's Charismatic Episcopal Church. She worked as a nurse's aide at King City Manor for over ten years.
She married Donald Paul Bonwell on June 8, 1974 at Union Star, Missouri. He passed away in 2006.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents, father Wattie Chaney and son, David Palmer.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Wattie T. (Laura) Palmer, Sr.; daughter, Tammie (Kent) Spencer: daughter-in-law, Peggy (Rick) Evans; step-son, Chris (Kasey) Brooks, nine grandchildren, Danielle (Josh) Hewitt, Lindsay Palmer, Regan (Cale) Lyons, Tommy (Larissa) Palmer, Jr., Angela, David and Claire Palmer, Zachary & Mason Spencer, step-grandchildren, Kirsten, Mitchell, and Delainey Brooks, and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at St. John's Charismatic Episcopal Church. Interment King City Cemetery, King City, MO.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at our Chapel.
The family suggests memorials to the Church Building Fund.
