"They had apparently gotten the downtown officials involved and they're were going to do a meeting with me on the needs of the building and the needs assessment and space," said Gerving. "So I had prepared for a meeting and we had came down here to look at the space and as I was coming down the music started playing and I caught on."
The ceremony was very humbling for Gerving and just reminds her of how much she loves her school.
"To think that they were all thinking of me and wishing me well was just a nice experience but we're a great place here. It was fun to watch the video and look at all of the different things we have accomplished over the four years here and it's been a journey," said Gerving.
But the activities for Principal Gerving have only just begun.
"Tonight I leave to get to Tantara and tomorrow I have an interview which is a half an hour long which they ask me a variety of questions about my journey as a principal and Monday night they will make the announcement of the state principal of the year," said Gerving.
Gerving was nominated as principal of the year by faculty and staff at Pickett Elementary.
