(INDEPENDENCE, Mo.) Central made a return trip to the Class 5 Sectionals, but Fort Osage sent the Indians out with another season-ending loss at the Independence Events Center.
Osage (22-4) beat Central (12-14) 53-34 Wednesday night.
Trailing 19-18 at halftime, the Indians were outscored 34-16 in the second half giving Fort Osage the wide margin.
"Tonight I don't think we played bad, I just think they made plays when we needed to," Central coach Cy Musser said after the game. "Shots weren't falling tonight for us and that made it tough.
The Indians played well in the first eight minutes of the game.
Central controlled the first quarter getting out to a 13-7 lead by the end of the frame.
Things stalled for the Indians after that. They only scored five points in the second quarter, and Derek Gray, Shun Williams and Jalil Davis were the only Central players to score in the first half.
The loss ends Musser's first season leading the Indians.
He took over for Neal Hook who switched from head coach to athletic director at Central.
Musser hated to see the season end, but enjoyed his ride.
"These kids worked hard and this experience was awesome."
