Walter Thompson, 84, of Platte City, MO passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at Ashton Court of Liberty, MO
A visitation will be held 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, with a 10:45 a.m. Masonic service, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Camden Point Cemetery, in Camden Point, MO. The family suggests contributions be given to: Crossroads Hospice--9237 Ward Pkwy.-, Ste. 300--K.C., MO 64114; or Alzheimer's Association--Heart of American Ch.--3846 W. 75th St.--Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Walter was born April 19, 1928 in Platte County, MO to Walter Thompson, Sr. and Birdie Elizabeth (McClain) Thompson. He lived in the Platte County area most of his life, also living in the Kansas City and Raytown, MO areas before moving back to Platte City in 1978. Walter married Wilma Christine Towns on March 2, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Platte City. Walter worked as a chemist for the milk marketing administration of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Walter was a Master Mason and member of the Camden Point #169 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge. He also enjoyed square dancing.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: his wife Christine of the home; his son Stephen (Vicki) Thompson of Kansas City North; his half brothers Charles (Jan) Thompson, and Marvin Kent (Beverly) Thompson, all of Platte City; 2 grandchildren Walter Paul (Natalie) Thompson of Prairie Village, KS, and Jennifer Lynn (Michael) Downs of K.C. North; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
