(JOPLIN, Mo.) One year ago, the Bearcat women stumbled to a six-win campaign.
Now, head coach Mark Kellogg owns an MIAA Tournament victory in his first season at the helm.
Northwest held off a late rally at Missouri Southern Tuesday night, punching their ticket to Kansas City with a 77-72 win.
The Bearcats (15-12, 8-10) scored the first seven point of the game, allowing them to take that margin into the locker room at halftime. The Lions (14-13) refused to go quietly, keeping the game to a tie or one possession until the 3:27 mark of the second half.
Alexis Boeh hit a pair of free throws to extend the Bearcats' lead to four points and provide the cushion they needed to fend off a comeback.
Ashleigh Nelson helped provide the spark, leading the squad with 21 points. Annie Mathews chipped in 14, while Boeh added 12.
The Bearcats will face top-seeded Washburn at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City Friday at noon.
