He was born October 21, 1920 in Gallatin, MO, son of Theresa and Tonie Roberts. He married Mabel Lidgett on Sept. 20, 1942 and they celebrated 70 years of marriage together. He served in the Army and is a veteran World War II serving in the European Theatre. He worked at GM Electrician (1951-1981), and the Rupp Funeral Home as an Ambulance Driver. He liked to help people, good looking cars, especially GM cars, Cadillac's, he also loved to go to their place at Bull Shoals lake. He was a member of Copeland Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time there on various projects.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters, Mae Chellew, Millie Rapp, Alpha Marlowe, Hazel Roberts, Jessie Welch, and Marjorie Roberts, and 5 brothers, Paul, Pete, George, Bill, and Lloyd Roberts. Survivors include wife Mabel Roberts of the home, 3 sons - James (Vernis) Roberts, David L Roberts, of St. Joseph and Gerald L. Roberts of Leavenworth, KS; daughter - Susan (Macon) Dudley of Rushville, MO; and seven - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Steele officiating, The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Friends may call after 10 AM Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to the Copeland Baptist Church.
