(MARYVILLE, Mo.) The Bearcats have little time to dwell on the sour taste of their regular season finale. They have a rubber match to prepare for.
Truman State made up a 16-point gap, completing a late comeback to knock off Northwest 63-56 at Bearcat Arena Saturday. The loss seals the fifth seed for Northwest (18-9, 11-7) in the MIAA Tournament, meaning they'll welcome in 12th-seeded Missouri Western for their third meeting of the season.
Northwest dropped the first match in St. Joseph 71-58 before scoring a revenge win in Maryville 11 days ago.
DeAngelo Hailey led the Bearcats on Saturday with 14 points, while Dillon Starzl recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Mike Carlson fueled Truman's efforts, nailing seven three-pointers while notching a game-high 29 points. Northwest, meanwhile, shot just under 23 percent from beyond the arc, hitting just five of 22 attempts.
The Bearcats and Griffons tip at 7 p.m. Monday in Maryville.
