Josephine "Jody" L. (Herring) Gillenwater-Best, 74, Savannah, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at LaVerna Village in Savannah, Missouri.
She was formerly of Emporia, Kansas for many years and recently moved back to Savannah. She was born January 25, 1939, to the late Lester and Bertha Rosa (Brinson) Herring. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, fishing as well as going to garage sales and auctions.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; father of her children, Cecil Gillenwater; son, Ricky Gillenwater; and grandson, Creston Dreher. Survivors; two sons; Rocky (Monica) Gillenwater of Savannah and Roland Gillenwater of Minot, North Dakota; two daughters, Anita Gillenwater of Dobbins, California and Rita (Dean) Hughes of Savannah; two sisters, Sylvia (Warren) Hayes of St. Joseph, Missouri and Loretta Crouch of Savannah, Missouri; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial Celebration of life: 6:30 PM Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Breit - Hawkins and Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Public visitation and family receiving hours 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Funeral Home. Josephine has been cremated.
