Griffons Drop Fourth Straight

(HAYS, Kan.) Wednesday's performance by a struggling Griffon team added to the number of possible tournament scenarios that could pan out this weekend.

Missouri Western dropped their fourth straight game in a 73-57 decision at Fort Hays State Wednesday.

The Griffons (9-16, 5-12) sit in the 12th and final spot in the MIAA Tournament. A win over Southwest Baptist on Saturday would lock up that spot for them.

Fort Hays State (18-7, 12-5) outscored Western 34-23 in the first half with a 50 percent shooting effort from the floor. Four Tiger starters finished in double figures, including Dwayne Brunson with a game-high 20 points.

Reed Mells was the only Griffon to hit that mark with 15 points. As a team, Western shot just under 39 percent from the field.

The team tips off against Southwest Baptist at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph.
