(KEARNEY, Neb.) With their fate in their own hands, Northwest Missouri State didn't squander its shot at a first round bye in the MIAA Tournament.
The Bearcats (18-8, 11-6 MIAA) picked up their third consecutive win in a 68-50 decision over the University of Nebraska Kearney Wednesday night.
Now with just one game left in the regular season, Northwest can clinch a bye in the conference tournament with a win over Truman State on Saturday.
Neither team got off to a fast start in Kearney.
UNK and Northwest were tied 18-18 with 9:30 left in the first half, and the two teams combine to score just 14 points the rest of the frame.
The Bearcats went into the break trailing the Lopers 26-24, but responded in the first 7:30 of the second half with a 15-3 run.
Senior guard Alex Sullivan got things rolling in the second half hitting a three-pointer on the first possession, then made a lay-up on the ensuing possession after a UNK turnover.
Sullivan finished the game with 14 points and six rebounds.
DeAngelo Hailey led the Bearcats with 15 points on 6-11 shooting. As a team, the Bearcats were 47-percent from the field.
The regular season comes to a close for Northwest on Saturday as they host Truman State for senior day. Hailey and Sullivan are the only two Bearcats to be honored.
