(ATCHISON, Ks.) An Atchison County woman has been cited after one horse died on her property and others were found malnourished.
According to KAIR, Lynn Westmoreland is the property owner facing four counts of animal cruelty in the investigation.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie told KAIR, deputies found a horse dead in Westmoreland's neighbor's pool recently south of town.
Laurie said the horse and three others were "very malnourished" and in poor health. He said the horse that drowned was likely looking for drinking water when it died.
"One of the horses went wandering for some water because of the horse trough being frozen. It wandered to a neighbor's pool where it fell through the pool tarp and drowned," said Laurie.

The Atchison County Sheriff's Department brought in a veterinarian to check out the surviving horses. Those horses have been transferred to a different location where they are being monitored.
Westmoreland is scheduled to appear in court on March 15.
