Chiefs Agree to Trade With 49ers for Alex Smith

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The Chiefs have a new quarterback in the fold for the 2013 season according to multiple reports around the NFL.

The team has agreed to a trade with the 49ers to bring Alex Smith to Kansas City. The deal cannot go into effect until March 12 when the 2013 league year starts.

The trade was first reported by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

Multiple reports state the Chiefs give up their second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional pick in next year's draft. They inherit Smith's remaining contract, which includes a guaranteed base salary of $8.5 million this season.

The 28-year-old threw for 1,737 yards and 13 touchdowns before being sidelined by a concussion on Nov. 11th and losing the starting job to Colin Kaepernick. He's tossed for 81 touchdowns and 63 interceptions in 80 career games since being selected with the number one overall pick in the 2005 Draft.
