He was born January 27, 1939 in Union Star, MO, son of Pauline and Cecil Smith. He married Marilyn Brown in 1980. He served in the Air Force for 8 years. He worked at Kresge's, Stevens Hat Company, Callis Manufacturing, Missouri Valley Veneer, Herds Auction and Missouri American Walnut. He enjoyed going to the casinos, fireworks, working at his various jobs and attending auctions and collecting antiques. He was a member of VFW post 1668 and he was a Catholic.
Homer was preceded in death by father, Cecil Smith, mother, Pauline Huffman, step-father, Clayton Huffman and a brother, Richard Smith. Survivors include wife Marilyn (Despain) Smith of the home, 2\two daughters, Diana (Charlie) Proctor and Juanita (Arthur) Lonjers, a son, Carl (Kathy) Smith, five step-daughters, Joyce Cain, Jeanie (Byron, Jr.) Brown, Kristy Miles, Janice Brown and Jonie Nolan, three step-sons, James (Rachel) Nolan Jr., Jerry Brown and John Brown, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am, on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Father Evan Harkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery .
