(ELWOOD, Ks.) Workers at a northeast Kansas plant have voted to decertify their union.

Officials at the Snorkel plant in Elwood say 72 of the 90 union workers voted to leave the International Association of Machinists.

"Our employees petitioned for a vote on decertification and voted overwhelmingly in favor of it," said David Smith, President of Snorkel North America. "This is such a rare occurrence because it only happens when employees completely trust their management team and recognize that the management team has their best interests at heart

The IAM began representing workers at the Elwood plant in 2008.

Snorkel manufactures aerial lifts and employs 148 workers at its Elwood plant.
