(MANHATTAN, Ks.) With a sudden opportunity to step to the front of the line in the Big 12 race, No. 13 Kansas State responded against one of the conference's feistiest teams.

Rodney McGruder led the Wildcats with 22 points in a 79-70 win against Iowa State on Saturday. Kansas State (19-4, 8-2) now have sole possession of first place in the Big 12.

The Wildcats' lead was just 33-32 at halftime, but they picked up 16 of their 27 points off turnovers in the second half to stave off the Cyclones (16-7, 6-4).

Angel Rodriguez had 20 points for Kansas State, while Thomas Gipson and Martavious Irving were also in double figures with 16 and 10, respectively.

The Wildcats now face a crucial conference match Monday as they travel to No. 5 Kansas, who're on a three-game losing streak.
