Eunice was born on April 1, 1930, the seventh child of Rev. John A. Findley and Tuleta (Williams) Findley. Her early years were spent on the family farm. In 1944, the family relocated to New Hampton, MO and she graduated high school from there in 1948.
She was united in marriage to William J. Barber on June 20, 1948. Three children were born to them, Cynthia, Janice and Mary Ann.
Eunice was Fashion Manager at Montgomery Ward at East Hills for many years. Later, while in her sixties and seventies, she worked at Jackson Furniture Gallery. Work was fun for Eunice as was life. She approached everything with joy, humor and zest. She wrote poetry, played piano hymns, fed and sheltered birds, stray cats and any animal or person that needed care.
She married Leo D. Deatherage on June 9, 1980. They made their home in St. Joseph. During her failing health, he was her faithful companion and caregiver. They raised a granddaughter, Jessica Faun Bidding, who calls them Mother and Father.
Eunice was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Joseph and loved her church family deeply.
Surviving are husband, Leo D. Deatherage; daughters, Cynthia Barber, Janice Lipira and Mary Ann Barber; one brother, Max Findley; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Yarnell, Jeffrey Hartschen, Angelo Lipira, M.D., Emily Lipira, Jessica (Steve) Mann and Gabriel Bidding and seven great-grandchildren.
