Ellen Louise (Patterson) Shelton 86, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 in a Savannah, MO health care center.
She was born October 19, 1926 in Gallatin, MO, daughter of Nora (Stout) and William Jennings Bryan McLaughlin. She graduated from Benton High School class of 1944 and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She worked at United States Postal Service in Elwood Kansas as a Clerk for many years. She enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, KU basketball, she also enjoyed traveling, collecting frogs, and Red Cardinals, but most especially she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events. She was a Baptist.
Ellen was preceded in death by 1st husband, Ishmeal "Pat" Patterson, 2nd husband, Carl Shelton, her parents, 6 brothers, Delbert, Billy, Jackie, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Donald McLaughlin, 4 sisters, Vena Roberts, Marjorie Blanton, Connie Midyett, and Myrna Trepte. Survivors include 2 daughters - Cheryl Bidding and husband Charles, and Marilyn Clark all of St. Joseph, MO; a son - David Patterson and wife Sharon of Elwood, KS; a step-son - Mike Shelton and wife Connie, and a step-daughter - Sandy Lankford all of St. Joseph, MO; a brother - Frank McLaughlin of Colorado, grandchildren Jason & Bryan Patterson, Christopher Clark, Pam Lefler, Kale, Logan & Pierce Bidding, Step grandchildren: Stacy Williams, Debbie Green & Blake Shelton - several step grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Jennings officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
