(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Gov. Jay Nixon outlined his plan for new funding to higher education during a stop at Northwest Missouri State University Friday morning.

The governor's plan calls for a $34 million increase in higher education funding based on performance goals.

Performance criteria include, student retention and progress; graduation rate and degree completion; quality of student learning; financial responsibility and efficiency; and institution-specific goal.

The increases were included in the governor's recommended balanced budget for fiscal year 2014.

Northwest achieved all five performance benchmarks.

Nixon proposed the university receive more than $1.2 million in additional funding.

Missouri Western officials reported meeting four of the goals. Under the proposed formula, the university would receive around $466,000, which is a two percent increase.
