Betty Lou (Sultzer) Wise, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away quietly on January 30, 2013 at a local healthcare facility.
Betty was the only child of LeRoy and Bertha Leanna (Brady) Sultzer, born on October 30, 1927. She graduated from Lafayette High School in 1945.
Betty married Lloyd L. Wise on April 20, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1990.
Betty worked for many years in various factories before going to work helping her husband operate the Monarch Cleaners until his death. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for twelve years and was sent to fifty disasters in various parts of the United States, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Saipan. Some of her fondest memories were of the different people she had met and helped throughout the years of volunteering. She was awarded the Clara Barton Award in 2005, which is the highest reward the American Red Cross awards. She was also a member of the American Red Cross Red Hatters.
Mrs. Wise was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean Thuman (David), St. Joseph, Carolyn Barth, Gypsum, Colorado; five grandchildren, Stacey Hill (Eric), Debbie Steeby, St. Joseph, Nikki Thuman, St. Louis, Matthew Barth, Gypsum, CO, and Elizabeth Barth, Lakewood, CO; eight great-grandchildren, Josh Drake, Olathe, Kelsey Hopkins, Ft. Bragg, N.C., Corey Drake, Zach Drake, Emily Hill, Graham Hill, Hannah Steeby, St. Joseph, and Christian Barth, Lakewood, CO; and her lifetime friends, Glenn Rose Steeb. Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Friday.
