(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Police have arrested a teenager after a string of vehicle break-ins overnight.

The St. Joseph Police Department received multiple reports from the Stonecrest area Tuesday morning. Officers looking into the reports found a suspect vehicle during their investigation, which led them to an 18-year-old man. The suspect ran from police, but later turned himself in at the Law Enforcement Center.

A second person came forward during the investigation and suggested that as many as 40 vehicles were targeted in the area.

Police believe only cars that were unlocked were hit, so some victims might not even know their cars were part of the break-ins.

Police have recovered property from the crime spree. The department is asking that anyone in the Stonecrest area and neighborhoods north of Frederick from Leonard eastward file a report if they notice items missing from their vehicles.

Charges are pending against the 18-year-old suspected in the crime spree. Officers are still investigating.
