The 37-year-old man was taken into custody for a mental evaluation last week after authorities say he threatened to carry out a shooting at Maysville High School.
But Buchanan County Prosecutor Dwight Scroggins says they looked carefully at what the man said and believe no actual threats were made.
Scroggins say the man is very ill, has no history of violence and law enforcement believes he is not a threat to himself or others.
School Superintendent Dr. Robert Smith says an extra police presence will be on campus for the foreseeable future.
