Northwest Fizzles After a Fast Start Against UCM

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) Central Missouri recovered after a quick start by Northwest Missouri State to hand the Bearcats a 60-52 loss on Saturday.
Northwest (10-7, 4-5 MIAA) jumped out to a 14-0 lead five and a half minutes into the game, and led 24-8 with 8:31 left in the first half, but let the lead slip away. The Jennies came back to get within two points of the Bearcats at halftime.
Central Missouri went on an 11-3 run to begin the second half, but Northwest's Maggie Marnin responded by scoring 9 of her team-high 14 points over the next five minutes to put the Bearcats back up by two.
But the 'Cats were held scoreless over the final 7:26 of the game as the Jennies pulled out the win.
After shooting 52-percent in the first half, Northwest was held to just 37-percent from the field in the second half.
Along with Marnin's 14 points, Annie Mathews contributed 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Northwest also lost the turnover battle giving the ball away 22 times to just 14 for Central.
The Bearcats have now lost five of their last six road games.
They get back home Wednesday with an MIAA battle against Northeastern Oklahoma.
