(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) This year's budget won't look much different than last year's for Buchanan county.

Commissioners held a public hearing for the budget Friday, with little turnout.

They say they're being conservative with projections.

The county is looking at $55,000 more in sales tax this year.

However, property values have dropped, and the county is losing around $200,000 in property taxes.

Overall, funds are less than a percent more this year than last year.

Commissioners hope another try at passing a use tax can make a difference in the future.

"It would give us a little breathing room, which is something we haven't had for many years, and sales tax continues to erode as more and more people purchase out of state," says R.T. Turner, Presiding Commissioner in Buchanan County.

Commissioners plan to approve the final budget on January 30th.
