Central Tops Western in Smith's Final Appearance

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) Tom Smith's final trip to the University of Central Missouri campus as a head coach was a bittersweet occasion Wednesday.

Smith, who picked got his first chance to be a head coach at Central, was recognized before the game by the Mule faithful then watched his Griffons lose their third straight game.

Central Missouri got 22 points from its bench on the way to a 72-60 win over Missouri Western (7-10, 3-6 MIAA).

The Griffons did receive a solid performance from junior Cedric Clinkscales.

Clinkscales, a transfer from Roane State Community College, scored a game-high 21 points.

Missouri Western got within four points of Central Missouri early in the second half, but the Mules pulled away shooting 58-percent from the field in the final period.

The Griffons wrap up a three-game road trip Saturday in Jefferson City against Lincoln.
