(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) Senior Heather Howard dropped a career-high 26 points on the way to her 10th double-double of the season, but it was not enough to overcome Missouri Western's first half rut in a 74-71 overtime loss to No. 16 Central Missouri.

The Griffons (12-5, 5-4 MIAA) shot just 28.5-percent in the first period and found themselves down 33-24 at halftime.

The Jennies made the first move in the second half to grab an 11-point lead, but Western responded with a 25-5 run to take a 49-40 lead with 10:19 to play.

Central battled back to take a 1-point lead on a lay-up by Keuna Flax with 34 seconds to play.

On the Griffons next possession, Lancia Lawrence was fouled, and went to the free throw line with a chance put Missouri Western ahead with 28 seconds left. Lawrence could only convert on one of the two free throws sending the game to overtime.

The Jennies outscored the Griffs 11-8 in the five minute extra period sealing their fate.

To go along with Howard's game-high 26 points, Alex Saxen added 10, and Alicia Bell scored 6 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.

Western, losers of two straight, wrap up a three-game road trip Saturday in Jefferson City against Lincoln.
