(BOLIVAR, Mo.) Facing a team with just one win in MIAA-play, Northwest Missouri State anticipated picking up a second consecutive road win, but Southwest Baptist shut the door on that possibility Tuesday.
The Bearcats (10-6, 4-4 MIAA) fell 76-74 to Baptist snapping a two-game win streak.
Northwest was down by two with the ball and 29 seconds to play, but made a critical error to end their chances.
Maggie Marnin turned the ball over with 11 seconds to play as the Bearcats tried to tie. Brook Duncan hit a pair of free throws to put Baptist up by four on the ensuing possession.
Ashleigh Nelson hit a three-pointer with three seconds to play bringing Northwest back within one point, but it was too little too late.
Nelson led Northwest with 18 points.
Monique Stevens added 14 points and six assists.
The Bearcats stayed in the game by scoring 42 of their 74 points in the paint, and shot 64-percent from the field in the second half.
Northwest has now lost five of 8 games away from Bearcat Arena this season.
They are back on the road Saturday at Central Missouri.
