The Lewis and Clark Information Exchange Network was created at Heartland in 2008 and is designed to coordinate information like patient treatment and medication history between systems to ensure better, more efficient care.
At an event in Kansas City this afternoon, Heartland gifted control of the network over to a new, independent board that will coordinate the information exchange.
Many hospitals in Kansas City originally were hesitant in signing on to the network with Heartland in control, but as of today, 15 medical centers are participating.
