Robert Frakes, 91, Highland, KS

He was born November 17, 1921 near Sparks, KS, the son of John and Nina Griffis Frakes. Robert graduated from Severance High School and then attended Highland Community College. He married Grace Lee Lininger on September 12, 1953 in Leona, KS at the Bellevue United Methodist Church. From this union two children were born, Paul and Melissa. Grace Lee preceded him in death July 23, 2000.
Robert worked as the Executive Director of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service office in Doniphan County. He worked for the department of Agriculture for 30 years beginning in July of 1953 when he took care of government grain at storage sites in Doniphan County. He retired Dec. 30, 1983. After retirement Robert and Grace Lee helped at the Highland Mortuary with Paul Tyler and Dick Casselman. He later worked with Steve Framke, Jay Brock, and Mandy Rockey. Robert did everything from working visitation, answering the phones to going on calls for the funeral home. He was a vital part of the funeral business in the Brown and Doniphan Co. areas.
Robert was an avid fisherman, card player, playing and watching sports, and pitching horseshoes. He was a lifelong cattleman, raising Polled Herefords. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Farmers State Bank in Highland. Robert was a member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Paul and his wife Barbara Frakes of Olathe, KS, a daughter and her husband, Melissa and Jason Baity of St. George, KS, 7 grandchildren, Megan, Moira, John, Kate, Shannon, and Molly Frakes, Grace Baity, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Winchester.
Funeral Services are planned for 2 PM, Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, KS. Pastor Jerry Petering will officiate. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Tuesday where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. that evening.
