Survivors include his wife Dorothy of 53 years; daughters Beth Holmes and Brad of Decatur, IL, Carolyn James and Heike Mund of Hamburg, Germany and Laura Smith and Scott of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren Morgan Higgins, Casey Gregg, T.J. Holmes, Cameron, Connor, and Creighton Smith; brother Ned L. James and wife JoAnn of Quitman, AR; and several nieces and nephews.
Bob grew up in Albany, MO. He completed a degree in Chemistry at Northwest Missouri State; a Master of Science from University of Northern Iowa and a P.H.D. in Science Education from University of Iowa.
He taught high school science at Odessa, MO. Later as a Professor of science education at Kansas State and Texas A&M, Bob lived his passion for training and mentoring science educators and he also directed the Texas Alliance for Science.
An active member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, TX, Bob thrived on teaching Sunday School, supporting missionaries and serving in church outreach.
Bob served in the National Guard. Woodworking, gardening, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends were among his favorite activities. Bob and Dorothy treasured their summers in Tin Cup, CO.
The prayers and songs of his family surrounded him in death. We are eternally grateful for his life.
Inurnment 3:00 P.M. Saturday, Memorial Park Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 3:15 P.M., Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church 5502 Frederick Blvd St. Joseph, Missouri 64506. A Robert K. James memorial scholarship fund will be established. Please contact Scott Smith at snsmitty@live.com.
