He was a life-long resident of St. Joseph, Missouri where he was born on August 4, 1932.
Jack married Sharon "Suzy" McKernan on August 27, 1960. She survives of the home.
He attended Central High School, where he graduated in 1951. He then attended University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Korean War for the United States Army.
Jack was the owner of Sheridan Clayton Paper from 1956-1987 and Clayton Paper and Distribution from 1992-present.
He served on many boards including United Missouri Bank and Commerce Bank, the youngest director for Mechanic Bank, President of St. Joseph Country Club, President of Mount Mora Cemetery, a member of the Boosters Club, Jesters, NPTA, ISSA, and The United Group.
Mr. Clayton was an avid golfer and tennis player and loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Patee Clayton.
Survivors: wife of 52 years; daughters, Jackie Davis (Lyle), Liberty, Missouri, and Julie Guemmer (Derek), Kansas City, Missouri; son, Jim, Clayton (Jenni), St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren, Mattie, Ben, Reid Catherine, Jack, and Olivia; sister, Martha Jean Burleson, Temple, Texas; and many nieces.
Memorial Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, Ashland United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial gifts to Backpack Buddies Second Harvest Community Food Bank 915 Douglas St. Joseph, Missouri 64506.
